Communications strategy
The Comms strategy is your plan for who you'll communicate with, how often, and via what channel. Sageon Business lets you build it once and track adherence over the project life.
What it captures
- Audience segments — board, sponsor, steering, team, end users, suppliers
- Channel per audience — 1:1 meeting / email / Slack / status report / town hall
- Cadence — daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly, ad-hoc
- Format — verbal, written, dashboard link
- Owner — who's responsible for delivering this comms
- Last sent / Next due — adherence tracking
How to build one
From a project → Comms strategy → + Add comms line:
For each line, fill in audience, channel, cadence, format, owner. You'll typically have 5-10 lines per project.
Tracking adherence
Each comms line tracks "last sent" — click Mark sent when you deliver. Sageon Business flags overdue lines in red.
When to use it
- Plan at PIM — agree comms cadence at kickoff
- Update at milestones — adjust as the project evolves
- Review at SOFT report time — check what's working
Example
| Audience | Channel | Cadence | Owner |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sponsor | 1:1 | Weekly | PM |
| Steering | Meeting + report | Monthly | PM |
| Team | Standup | Daily | PM |
| Wider org | Email update | Monthly | Sponsor |
| Suppliers | Status email | Weekly | PM |
Tips
- Match channel to audience. Execs want a 1-page report; team wants a Slack thread.
- Plan less than you think. Over-communicating leads to noise; people stop reading.
- Owner ≠ creator. Sometimes the PM drafts and the sponsor sends.
