Managing portfolios
A portfolio is the strategic top of your delivery hierarchy. Use one per major business initiative (typically annual).
Create a portfolio
- Portfolios in the sidebar → + New portfolio
- Fill in:
- Name — short and meaningful ("Digital Transformation 2026")
- Description — what success looks like
- Owner — the executive sponsor
- Planned dates — start and end
- Click Create
What you see on a portfolio page
- RAG rollup — green/amber/red counts across the portfolio's programmes and projects
- Programmes list — every programme attached
- Financials — total budget vs actual across the portfolio
- Milestone summary — upcoming + at-risk
Adding programmes to a portfolio
From the portfolio detail page → + Add programme, or create the programme separately and pick this portfolio from the parent dropdown.
Editing a portfolio
Click into the portfolio → Edit (top-right). All fields editable except id. Changes save immediately.
Archiving / deleting
Soft delete: portfolios are marked deleted, not removed. They're hidden from the list but recoverable for 90 days. Contact support if you need a hard delete (GDPR).
Tips
- Don't create too many. 3-5 portfolios is healthy. 20+ means you're using them for grouping, not strategy.
- Match your reporting line. If your CFO has 4 capital programmes, you probably want 4 portfolios.
