Compensation and salary bands

Compensation is the most sensitive HR data in any system. Tribe captures it with strict access controls.

Salary bands

Define your bands once via Tribe → Settings → Salary bands:

  • Title"Senior Engineer"
  • Level"L5"
  • Min / Mid / Max — £ range
  • Currency

Bands are the framework for individual comp decisions.

Per-employee compensation

On each employee profile:

  • Current salary
  • Salary band (linked to bands above)
  • Effective date — when this salary became active
  • Salary history — all previous salaries with dates
  • Bonus + commission structure
  • Benefits — pension, healthcare, etc.

Access control

Compensation data is admin-only by default. Loosen carefully — most orgs only want owners/HR admins/the specific employee to see their own pay.

You can configure via Settings → Permissions but the hard floor is admin — managers can't see direct reports' salaries by default.

Salary review cycles

Tie compensation reviews to appraisal cycles:

  1. Set cycle dates
  2. Managers propose new salary for direct reports
  3. Calibration session (org-wide)
  4. Sign-off
  5. New salaries take effect on the configured date

Tips

  • Bands first, salaries second. Without bands you're paying ad-hoc — Sageon makes this visible.
  • Audit logging is your friend. Every salary change is logged with timestamp + actor.
  • Don't share between Sageon and your payroll system. Sageon is your source of truth; export to payroll via CSV.
