Performance and appraisals
Tribe runs cyclical performance management — appraisal cycles, objectives, ratings — all keyed off appraisal cycles you configure.
Run an appraisal cycle
- Configure cycles in Tribe → Settings → Appraisal cycles (e.g. "H1 2026", "H2 2026")
- Employees set objectives at start of cycle
- Mid-cycle check-ins (optional)
- End-of-cycle review + rating
- Approval by line manager
- Cycle closes; data archived
Setting objectives
Each employee can set 3-5 objectives per cycle:
- Title — "Lead the Cabinet Office bid response"
- Description
- Success criteria — measurable
- Status — Not started / In progress / At risk / Complete
- Linked project (optional) — ties HR objectives to delivery work
Ratings
End of cycle, line managers rate each objective and overall performance:
- Below expectations
- Meets expectations
- Exceeds expectations
- Outstanding
Calibration sessions can adjust ratings org-wide for consistency.
Privacy
Performance data is visible only to:
- The employee themselves
- Their line manager (and that person's manager)
- HR admins
Never visible to peers or unrelated managers.
Tips
- Fewer, better objectives. 3 great objectives beats 7 vague ones.
- Link to projects. Objectives tied to actual delivery work get achieved more often than abstract ones.
