Org chart

The org chart shows your reporting hierarchy as a tree — directors at the top, individual contributors at the bottom.

How it's built

Sageon Business derives the org chart automatically from each person's line manager field. Set the line manager when you add or edit an employee.

Viewing

Tribe → Org Chart. Click any node to see that person's profile. Hover to see their position and department.

Re-org

Move someone in the org chart by editing their line manager:

  • Open the person → Edit
  • Change Line manager to the new person
  • Save

The org chart re-renders immediately. No drag-and-drop in v1.

People without a line manager

Anyone without a line manager appears at the top of the chart (sibling of the CEO). To avoid clutter, set everyone's line manager — even if it's the owner.

What it's used for

  • Visibility — quick reference for a growing team
  • Leave approval — leave requests auto-route to the line manager
  • HR analytics — span of control, layers between IC and CEO

Tips

  • Keep it accurate. A stale org chart is worse than no org chart.
  • Check span of control. Managers with 12+ direct reports are a known scaling risk. The chart surfaces this visually.
  • Use it in onboarding. New starters love seeing where they fit on day 1.
