Managing programmes
A programme groups projects that deliver one coordinated outcome. Use it when projects share resources, dependencies or a common objective.
Create a programme
- Programmes in the sidebar → + New programme
- Fill in:
- Name ("Customer Platform")
- Parent portfolio — pick from the dropdown
- Description — what this programme delivers
- Owner — the programme director
- Planned dates
- Click Create
What you see on a programme page
- Projects list — every project under this programme with RAG, progress and budget
- Programme RAG — calculated from project RAGs
- Financial rollup — combined budget and actuals
- Resource view — who's working across projects in the programme
- Risks rollup — open RAID items across all projects
Linking projects to a programme
Two ways:
- From the programme page → + Add project
- From a project's settings → set the parent programme
A project can only belong to one programme at a time.
Moving projects between programmes
Open the project → Edit → change the parent programme. The project's RAG and financials immediately roll into the new programme.
Tips
- Programmes should be temporary. Long-running programmes are usually departments in disguise. If a programme has been running 3+ years with no end date, consider whether it should be a portfolio instead.
- Use programmes for dependency management. When two projects share a critical path, putting them in one programme makes the dependency visible everywhere.
